Multi-Media
Here are some examples of multi-media projects from my Honors CAS 137/138 class. I hope you enjoy hearing about some topics that I am interested about.
1) This I Believe
2) Biotechnology: The Future of Feeding You, Me, and the World
3) Delving into Dialects
1) This I Believe:
This audio was designed to be a part of the NPR "This I believe" project. About 3 minutes of anyone talking about things they care about. It could be sharing a story that has change your life, a meaningful value, or the thing you believe in the most. I was very excited, as well as nervous, to write my essay. However, I decided to write mine on the beauty of seeds. As you can tell by the pictures on my website, and most of my papers, I truly enjoy talking about, writing about, and being involved in agriculture. I love animals, the outdoors, and the beauty of life. So when you think about it, seeds are some of the simplest, most beautiful things on earth. What starts as something the size of a grain of rice, can blossom into a yellow flower, can bloom into a lush field of grass, or can grow into a large and enduring tree. Seeds are beautiful.
We are seeds.
I believe that we all start out as small seemingly unimportant cells, but have the opportunity to grow into the people we are today. Everyone has the opportunity to bloom and blossom into amazing things. While some of us have more obstacles or trials than others, those plants that learn to endure droughts and storms become the strongest.
I believe in the beauty of seeds, and in the opportunities that we all have to blossom and grow. We are all seeds.
The text and audio are below, enjoy.

2) TED TALK: Biotechnology is the Future of Feeding You, Me, and the World
We were assigned to create a TED talk, and I wondered to myself, what should I talk about. At the time, one of my classes in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State, was discussing the pros and cons of biotechnology. My class had many interesting discussions and some became quite heated. I realized that to be honest, we really did not know at all what we were talking about. Therefore, I decided to do more research, and then used that to create this presentation.
I believe that many people do not agree with biotechnology simply because they do not understand it, after all it is very complex science and hard to understand. I also believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and in no way am trying to force my opinion on you. However, I as our population grows, more and more people will be vying for the resources that our Earth has to offer. We need more creative innovation in food and agricultural sciences to produce more food. With the idea of maximizing food security for the future, I don't think that biotechnology is going to leave anytime soon. I like to think of biotechnology as a more aggressive form of natural selection, so click on the video to learn more about GMO's and biotechnology.

3) Delving Into Dialects:
This group project stemmed from an interest in people's accents and dialects. Whether is be a Southern, Hispanic, French, or a Boston accent, we wonderend, are people treated differently based on their accent? The media certainly protrays a hierarchy of desirable vs undesirable accents and dialects. While researching, we found out a lot about not only peoples' perceptions of others based on accents, but also, unfortunately, about discrimination. Little did we know that a person's speech can have even more of an effect on the listener than what they actually say. With technology, emigration and immigration, the world is truly becoming smaller. My group and I decided to create a video describing the different forms of discrimination based on speech. In reality, everyone has "an accent" when compared to people from different parts of the world. It is interesting to see which accents and dialects are seen as desirable and why. Watch the video below to hear more about accent discrimination as we delve into dialects.
